On 19th November, 2023, the Chief Minister of Delhi made an announcement stating that an additional 83 shops and commercial establishments in the city have been granted permission to operate 24 hours a day. However, it is important to note that this approval is subject to the confirmation of the Lieutenant Governor. To ensure compliance with the regulations, all shop owners must adhere to the provisions outlined in the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act of 1954.

The government will actively monitor these shops and commercial establishments to ensure that they are following the rules and regulations, and appropriate action will be taken against any violations. The statement released by the government also emphasized the positive impact of allowing these establishments to operate round the clock. It is expected that this move will not only contribute to the growth of the economy but also create new job opportunities for the younger generation.

In accordance with the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act, a total of 122 individuals expressed their interest in running shops for 24 hours and submitted their applications to the city labor department. After a thorough examination of the applications and accompanying documents, it was found that 29 of the application forms had deficiencies. However, the remaining 83 application forms were deemed to be complete and in compliance with all the regulations outlined in the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act. As a result, these 83 commercial establishments were granted approval to operate round the clock.
