The Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has released a public notice clarifying certain aspects of Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023. This notice was issued on 13th June, 2023.
It may be recalled that the National Medical Commission (NMC) had notified the Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 (GMER-23) on 2nd June, 2023. These regulations set forth new guidelines for medical institutions and deemed universities to improve the quality of undergraduate medical education and ensure the overall welfare of students.
Subsequently, the UGMEB also issued New Guidelines for MBBS Course on 12th June, 2023. The newly issued guidelines encompassed various aspects of the MBBS course.
Now by the present notice, the UGMEB states that previous procedures/ rules (as per Information Bulletin by NTA) will be followed for deciding the “inter-se-merit of candidates for tie-breaking”. This will be utilised for NEET-UG 2023 result.
Additionally, the notice also amends the Eligibility criteria for taking NEET-UG. It states that an aspirant shall not be allowed to take NEET-UG unless he has completed the age of 17 years as on or before 31st December of the year that the candidate shall be appearing for NEET- UG examination.
Prior to the present amendment, the aspirant would have been allowed to take NEET-UG only if he completed the age of 17 years as on or before 31st January of the year that the candidate would be appearing for NEET- UG examination.
