The Scientific Panel on Methods of Sampling & Analysis, under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has approved several methods related to food fortification on 3rd June, 2023. These methods aim to ensure accurate analysis and sampling in various fortified food products. A notice inviting the comments from the public on these methods was issued on 3rd July, 2023.
The approved methods are as follows:
- Vitamin & Mineral Premix for Preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK):
- Method for Determination of Iron in Vitamin & Mineral Premix for Preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).
- Method for Determination of Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) in Vitamin & Mineral Premix for Preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).
- Method for Determination of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) in Vitamin & Mineral Premix for Preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).
- Method for determination of Iron in Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS).
- Method for determination of Iodine and Iron in Double Fortified Salt (DFS) and Phosphorus in Fortified Salt.
Before finalization, the FSSAI seeks the comments, views, and suggestions of stakeholders regarding these approved methods. Interested parties are encouraged to provide their feedback by 2nd August, 2023. The comments and suggestions should be submitted through email ([email protected]) using the prescribed format provided in Annexure-I.
It is important to note that only comments and suggestions supported by scientific evidence will be taken into consideration during the finalization process. This ensures that the approved methods are based on robust scientific principles and contribute to accurate analysis and sampling practices in the field of food fortification.
