Recognizing the paramount importance of enhancing the health and safety standards of Indian street food, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and with technical support from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has unveiled a project called “Healthy and Hygienic Food Streets.” This unique initiative aims to transform 100 food streets across 100 districts in the country.
The primary objective of “Healthy and Hygienic Food Streets” is to elevate the hygiene conditions at all street food hubs, addressing not only the preparation but also the serving of food. This endeavor seeks to bring Indian street food standards in line with global best practices.
Recognizing that the successful implementation of this project will require coordination with multiple stakeholders at the state and district levels, FSSAI has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from interested entities to provide technical support on the ground. The scope of work encompasses various guidelines, including engaging with stakeholders, understanding challenges, developing monitoring tools and methodologies, creating evaluation matrices, and analyzing collected data.
The tentative period of engagement for this project is until March 31, 2024, or until the goal of establishing 100 Healthy and Hygienic food streets is achieved, whichever comes earlier.
