The Labour Department of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCT) has stated that all employers, contractors, and establishments on a construction site are required to ensure the payment of the notified minimum wages to the workers. A circular to this effect was issued on October 18, 2023.
The employers, contractors and establishments must also pay the same wages to female workers as they do to male workers for the same work, as mandated under the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.
All employers, contractor establishments are required to provide separate toilets for male and female construction workers on a construction site. This is mandated by the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, and the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2002.
Any violation of the above provisions will result in penal action being taken against the employers, contractors, and establishments.
