The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a notification on the 17th of October 2023, regarding the utilization of digital platforms to enhance governance.

The notification includes the following key points:

  1. The establishment of the Digi Yatra Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, with the voluntary role of conducting Aadhaar authentication for passenger verification and e-KYC (Know Your Customer) purposes on the Digi Yatra App or Program.
  2. The Digi Yatra Foundation is responsible for orchestrating extensive awareness campaigns through various media channels to inform citizens about the requirement of Aadhaar for accessing contactless services provided by implementing agencies.
  3. Contactless services that necessitate Aadhaar authentication include:
    • Enrolling citizens in the Digi Yatra App or Program.
    • Offering a seamless, hassle-free passenger experience using single-token face biometrics at airport checkpoints across India.
    • Facilitating seamless identity validation via the Digi Yatra App credentials at other checkpoints, public places, and within the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors where identity validation is crucial for citizen access to various facilities and services.

The use of Aadhaar as identity document eases the Government delivery processes, brings in transparency and efficiency, and enables applicants to get their work done directly in a convenient seamless manner, and Aadhaar eliminates the need for producing multiple documents to prove one’s identity.
