The Medical Education Regulation Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has undertaken a thorough scrutiny process of applications received for eligibility certificates. It has come to the attention of the MERB that several applications are pending due to identified deficiencies in the submitted documents. The NMC has issued a public notice dated 9th November, 2023 urging applicants to rectify these deficiencies.
It may be recalled that the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, emphasizes that Indian citizens aspiring to pursue medical qualifications abroad must obtain an eligibility certificate issued by the Council. Failure to do so rendered the individual ineligible to appear in the screening test.
It is essential to note that, as of the declaration of the NEET-UG 2019 results on April 5, 2019, the requirement for obtaining an Eligibility Certificate before proceeding abroad has been dispensed with. Qualifying the NEET-UG Exam after June 5, 2019, is now mandatory and deemed to serve as an Eligibility Certificate for Indian/OCI citizens seeking admission to MBBS or equivalent Medical Courses in Foreign Medical Institutions.
However, it has come to the attention of the MERB that certain applicants (listed in Annexure-I of the present notice) have proceeded abroad without obtaining the required Eligibility Certificate. To address this issue, the MERB has extended a 10-day window for all such applicants to rectify deficiencies and submit their applications through the eligibility portal of NMC. Hence, the deficiencies must be rectified by 19th November, 2023.
If the applicants listed in Annexure-I fail to fulfill the specified deficiencies or neglect to submit their applications within the stipulated time, their applications will be summarily rejected.
Timely rectification of deficiencies is crucial for expediting the processing of eligibility certificates, enabling applicants to progress in their endeavors.
