The Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a press release on its endeavours to streamline the registration of additional qualifications of PG Medical Students. This release was issued on November 21, 2023.

PGMEB has reiterated the necessity for State Medical Councils (SMCs) to register the additional qualifications of students passing PG degree and diploma courses. The Board has, on previous occasions, urged registration of specific batches under certain criteria.

However, despite this, the board continues to receives numerous grievances raised by PG students that their additional qualifications are not being registered by the SMCs. The reason attributed to this failure is the seal classification on the NMC platform. It is observed that although the students fall within the criteria for registration, their seats are categorised differently on the NMC platform. Hence based on this categorisation, SMCs are refusing to register the additional qualifications of such students.

Therefore, the PGMEB has once more categorically urged all SMCs to register the following seats admitted as permitted on NMC website:

  1. first four batches of PG degree courses
  2. first three batches of PG diploma courses
