The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued clarifications and directions regarding the implementation of the Adhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in all government and private medical colleges. These clarifications dated January 18, 2024 were published on January 25, 2024.
The clarifications aim to provide further clarity and ensure seamless compliance with the established protocols and state the following:
I. AEBAS Machine Procurement
The NMC reiterates that it has not mandated the purchase of attendance machines from any specific vendor. The responsibility for procuring AEBAS compliant machines rests with the respective medical colleges, empowering them to independently choose reliable vendors. Colleges must ensure the purchase of an adequate number of machines to guarantee daily attendance, and the NMC will not entertain communication regarding maintenance issues related to biometric attendance machines. Additionally, colleges are urged to ensure proper internet connectivity maintenance for the efficient functioning of AEBAS.
II. Face AEBAS Implementation
All users, including those facing issues with fingerprint recognition, are encouraged to utilize the face-based Biometric Attendance System (BAS). To facilitate whitelisting, the NMC has introduced a portal. All colleges are requested to submit whitelisting requests through this portal. Alternative forms of communication regarding this matter will not be considered.
III. AEBAS ID Transfer
In response to requests and complaints regarding difficulties in transferring AEBAS IDs during job transitions, medical colleges are directed to promptly transfer the AEBAS ID of a user upon resignation or transfer to another organization. If the destination is unknown, the AEBAS ID should be transferred to the ‘Free Pool’ instead of being blocked. Users facing difficulties in getting AEBAS ID transferred or blocked can approach NMC through the portal using the AEBAS attendance ID transfer form.
IV. Error Code Resolution
Colleges are informed that a comprehensive list of error codes and their resolutions is available on the NMC India Attendance website in the FAQ section. This information has also been re-uploaded on it.nmc.org.in for easy reference.
V. Shift Option Activation
Nodal officers in medical colleges have the authority to activate the shift option for AEBAS directly on the portal. This feature is encouraged for enhanced monitoring of attendance for faculty and staff working on a shift basis.
These clarifications and directions aim to streamline the implementation of AEBAS in medical colleges and ensure efficient and transparent attendance tracking. Medical colleges are urged to adhere to these guidelines for effective utilization of the biometric attendance system.
