In a significant move aimed at improving the livelihoods of workers in the Cashew Industry sector, the Government of Kerala has announced revised minimum wage rates. Effective from the date of publication in the Gazette, these revisions are set to positively impact thousands of workers across the state. This Notification was published on 09.02.2024.

Under the updated wage structure, both piece-rated and daily-rated workers will receive revised compensation. For piece-rated workers, rates vary according to specific tasks, such as shelling and peeling, ensuring fair remuneration based on job roles. Similarly, daily-rated workers across various categories, including Graders, Tin Fillers, and Carpenters, will benefit from increased basic wages. Moreover, a Dearness Allowance component has been introduced to account for inflation, ensuring that workers’ earnings keep pace with the cost of living. This allowance, calculated based on the Consumer Price Index of Kollam District, reflects the government’s commitment to addressing economic fluctuations and safeguarding workers’ purchasing power. It’s important to note that these revised rates represent a concerted effort by the government to uplift the standard of living for Cashew Industry workers. Additionally, existing employees already receiving higher wages will continue to benefit from their current compensation levels. Overall, the government’s decision to revise minimum wages underscores its dedication to promoting equitable growth and ensuring the well-being of the labor force in Kerala’s Cashew Industry sector.
