The National Medical Commission (NMC) is actively working to ensure that admissions to Postgraduate courses align with the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000. A notification in this regard was issued on 22nd October, 2023.
The NMC, created through the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and operational since September 2020, has been mandated to regulate and oversee medical education and practice in India. The commission is determined to uphold the quality of education in the medical field and the transparency of admission processes.
To ensure a fair and merit-based admission process, medical colleges must adhere to several parameters. These include admissions exclusively through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Board of Examination, adherence to sanctioned intake capacity, and the selection procedure in accordance with the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations.
Furthermore, stipends for Postgraduate students must be on par with those paid to students in government medical institutions. Any violation of these regulations may result in actions against both the concerned medical college or institution and the students.
To facilitate this process, the NMC has set up an online system accessible through their website. Medical colleges and institutions are required to submit details of all Postgraduate students admitted during the current academic year 2023-24 through this system. It is essential to use the existing login ID to access the portal. No hard copies of admission data are required, and the online system is the sole method for monitoring student admissions.
In case of login issues or difficulties, institutions can contact [email protected] for assistance.
Failure to submit the required information within the stipulated time could impact the recommendation for permission or recognition by the NMC for the current academic year and subsequent years.
Colleges and institutions must follow specific guidelines, as outlined on the NMC website, when entering student details into the system. The data must include essential information such as course name, intake capacity, date of admission, student details, category, NEET scores, stipend information, and supervising PG teacher’s name.
Modifications and deletions are allowed within three days of the last admission date for Broad Specialty courses, which is October 25, 2023. Details for Super Specialty courses will be announced later.
The onus of providing accurate information is on the institutions, and the NMC has the authority to take action in case of incorrect data submission.
Additionally, the Directorate of Medical Education for each State/Union Territory is responsible for submitting admission details for their regions within two weeks of the last admission date.
In case of any technical difficulties, institutions can contact [email protected] for prompt assistance. It’s important to note that the NMC’s website will only display the names of students whose details are submitted on time, emphasizing the need for timely data submission by colleges and institutions.
