The Government has issued The Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023. The Order aims to regulate the manufacturing and use of these essential components and enhance their reliability and safety across sectors. The order shall come into force from 21st January, 2024.
The key provisions of The Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023 are as follows:
- For Small Enterprises and Micro Enterprises the Order shall come into force after nine months and twelve months, respectively, from the date of publication of the notification.
- The goods or articles specified in the Order shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard. These products shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the Order.
- Any person or entity found contravening the provisions of the Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2023 shall be liable to penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
However, certain exemptions are provided for goods or articles manufactured domestically for export, imported as part of any finished product or sub-assembly, or imported by domestic manufacturers for manufacturing products for export. Additionally, small enterprises meeting specific criteria are also exempted from implementing the Quality Control Order.
