The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a clarification on recognition/ Continuation of Recognition (CoR) of MBBS degree for the year 2022-23. This public notice was dated 14th July, 2023.
In view of the upcoming counseling schedule for NEET-UG 2023, the Medical Colleges and Institutions that were awaiting recognition or confirmation of registration (CoR) until the year 2023 and have not received any specific denial or admission stoppage communication for the academic year 2023-24 from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) or the NMC, have been granted recognition for a period of one year only, namely the academic year 2022-23.
This decision means that these medical colleges and institutions are permitted to admit a fresh batch of MBBS students with the same intake as in the academic year 2022-23. This provision applies to all MBBS batches admitted up to the academic year 2018-19.
The granting of recognition for one year provides temporary relief to these medical colleges and institutions, allowing them to continue their operations and accept new students for the upcoming academic year. However, it is important to note that this recognition is valid only for the specified period, and the colleges and institutions will need to ensure that they fulfill the necessary criteria for recognition and CoR in the subsequent years.
The decision has been made to avoid disruption in the admission process and to facilitate the counseling of NEET-UG 2023. It provides clarity to both the colleges and the aspiring medical students regarding the availability of seats and the admission process.
