The Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice on approval of Methods of Sampling and Analysis for Fortified Rice Kernel. This notice was issued on 8th November, 2023.

The Scientific Panel on Methods of Sampling and Analysis of the FSSAI has given its stamp of approval to three methods for the determination of key nutrients in Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK). The move is aimed at enhancing the precision and accuracy of nutritional analysis, ensuring the quality of fortified rice products in the market.

The approved methods are as follows:

  1. Method for determination of Iron in Fortified Rice Kernel: FSSAI.FRK.16.004.2023 (Annexure-I)
  2. Method for determination of Folic Acid in Fortified Rice Kernel: FSSAI.FRK.16.005.2023 (Annexure-II)
  3. Method for determination of Vitamin B12 in Fortified Rice Kernel: FSSAI.FRK.16.006.2023 (Annexure-III)

These methods have undergone rigorous scrutiny by the scientific community and are deemed to provide accurate results, setting a new standard for assessing the nutritional content of fortified rice.

The directive from the Scientific Panel mandates all food testing laboratories to adopt these approved methods with immediate effect.
