The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice emphasizing on the conduct of enforcement drives to check adulteration of various food products during the ongoing festive season. This notice was issued on 30th October, 2023.
The FSSAI has observed that the increase in demand for food products during the festival season fosters an economic motivation to adulterate such products. This is particularly relevant to sweets, savouries, milk and milk products such as ghee, koya, paneer and the like. As the demand for these products increases during the festival season, Food Business Operators (FBOs) are more likely to adulterate such products.
In such a scenario , FSSAI has emphasised on preventive actions to be carried out frequently by food safety officers including carrying out special surveillance / enforcement drives. It is expected that a strict vigil will be kept on manufacturing and sale of sweets, savouries, milk and milk products like ghee, khoya, paneer etc.
Additionally, Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) will be positioned in the prominent markets and on the basis of specific intelligence input. Primary motive of this process is to ensure that such products are safe to consume and as per the respective food products standards.
