The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has opened applications to fill the position of Chairperson. This notice was published on 10th July, 2023.

The FSSAI’s primary mandate is to lay down science-based standards for food products and regulate their manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import. This crucial role aims to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. The Chairperson of the FSSAI is entrusted with the responsibility of performing the duties, functions, and exercising the powers prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its corresponding Rules and Regulations.

The FSSAI’s headquarters are located in Delhi. The position offers a fixed scale of pay at Rs. 2,25,000/- per month, accompanied by allowances as per the guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must possess eminence in the field of Food Science or have a strong association with the subject matter as individuals from the Administration. They should currently hold or have previously held a position not below the rank of Secretary to the Government of India. Relevant work experience in Central or State Regulatory Bodies would also be considered a desirable qualification for the position.

The Chairperson’s term of office spans three years from the date of assuming the role. Upon completion, they become eligible for re-appointment for an additional three-year period or until reaching the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.

The deadline for receiving applications is within 45 days from the publication date of this circular in the Employment News. The closing date will be 24th August, 2023. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered.

While the Government of India reserves the right to consider the candidature of individuals who did not apply in response to the newspaper advertisement, it also holds the discretion to reject any or all applications without providing a reason.

Candidates are also advised against any form of canvassing, as it will result in disqualification.
