The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will has published a notice on a national training program titled the ‘National Hands-on Training Program on Biogas Technology and Its Implementation’. This notice was published in December 2023.

The MNRE seeks to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the realm of biogas. Biogas has emerged as a clean fuel for domestic cooking, off-grid and grid power generation, and bio-CNG for transport applications. With a focus on addressing climate change concerns and leveraging agricultural waste, the MNRE is supporting the generation of biogas from agricultural waste, including paddy straw, prevalent in the farms of Haryana and Punjab.

In this context, a national training program has been organized by the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to February 23, 2024, at its premises on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala Road, Wadala Kalan, Kapurthala, Punjab, India.

Objectives of the National Training Program:

  1. Create awareness of the need and prospects of biogas technology in India.
  2. Introduce the importance of biogas and various aspects of biogas plant design, operation, and maintenance.
  3. Highlight factors for bio-methane enhancements and Consortium development.
  4. Explore the integration of algal technology with anaerobic digestion and biogas production.
  5. Emphasize the utilization of enriched bio-methane of bio-CNG quality and standards for off-grid and grid power generation.
  6. Familiarize participants with policy making and financing for industrial projects related to biogas production and up-gradation.
  7. Showcase the latest technological advancements in biogas production, enrichment, and bottling.

Themes of the Training Program:

  1. Biogas Process and Design
  2. Biogas Operation & Maintenance
  3. Biogas Up-gradation and Power Generation
  4. Application of Algal Technology in Biogas
  5. Biogas Policy & Financing

Who Should Attend: The training program is designed for SNDs/SNAs/BDTCs/KVIC, manufacturers of biogas plants, purification systems, engines, gas flow meters, project developers, implementers, consultants, biogas aspirants, start-ups, and field supervisory functionaries involved in the implementation of biogas programs.
