The Eligibility and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Council (NMC) has issued a public notice regarding the pending applications for eligibility certificates. The scrutiny process for applications has revealed deficiencies that require immediate attention from the concerned applicants. Hence, a public notice dated January 7, 2024 was issued
After a thorough review of the applications submitted by various individuals, the EMRB, NMC has identified discrepancies in the applications listed in Annexure-I. It may be recalled that as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, a citizen of India must obtain an eligibility certificate from the Council before seeking admission to a medical qualification granted by any foreign institution.
However, it has been observed that certain applicants have proceeded abroad without obtaining the required Eligibility Certificate. In light of this, the Board has decided to grant a 3-day window to all such applicants to rectify their deficiencies through the eligibility portal of NMC.
As per the notice, applicants failing to fulfill the deficiencies or submit the necessary documents by January 10, 2024 will face the summary rejection of their applications.
The requirement for an Eligibility Certificate before proceeding abroad had been eliminated since the declaration of the NEET-UG 2019 results, as stated in the public notice dated 05.04.2019. Henceforth, qualifying the NEET-UG Exam after 05 June 2019 has been deemed mandatory and will serve as the Eligibility Certificate for Indian/OCI citizens seeking admission to MBBS or equivalent Medical Courses in foreign institutions.
