The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a notice inviting nominations for the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award for the year 2024. This notice was issued on 7th October, 2023 and published on 8th November, 2023.

The National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award is given as a mark of recognition for the meritorious services rendered by nursing professionals in the country. It is open to nurses employed in central, state/ UTs, private, missionary and voluntary organisation. The award consists of cash of Rs. 50,000, a certificate and a medal.

This award is presented on the 12th May of every year. This marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Hence, the next award ceremony is on 12th May, 2024.

The states are invited to select and send nominations for at least five candidates in each of the following categories:

The selection criteria, application form, guideline for preparing the resume of the nominee, composition of the state level selection committee, and procedure for selection of the nominees for the award have been detailed in the notice.

The notice also emphatically calls upon the duly constituted selection committees to enclose their minutes of meeting along with signature of all the members of the committee. The requirements of quorum for the meeting of the selection committee must also be met. If any member of the committee was not present for the meeting, then the recommendations will not be considered. Nominations should mandatorily be accompanied with recommendation of the State Selection Committee.

The selection committee should also include representatives of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) and other associations.

The selection committee shall receive nominations from all categories of institutions including government, private and missionary institution.

Upon the completion of the selection, the names of the nominees along with their resume and documentary proof in support of claim for the award shall be sent to the Indian Nursing Council. These details shall be sent to the President, Indian Nursing Council, 8th floor, NBCC Centre, Plot No. 2, Community Centre, Okhla Phase-I New Delhi-110020. These details must be sent to the INC by 31st January, 2024.

State governments are requested to give wide publicity to this invitation by uploading the criteria on their websites.
