The central government has introduced the “Polyethylene Material for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.” The order was published on January 4, 2024. It is set to enhance regulations governing the production and usage of polyethylene materials in moulding and extrusion processes.
The key modification introduced in the Polyethylene Material for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Order, 2022, is outlined in paragraph 1, subparagraph (3). The amendment inserts a proviso specifying certain exemptions within the regulatory framework. The newly added proviso states:
“Provided that, nothing in this Order shall apply to the following classes of polyethylene material for moulding and extrusion, namely:
a) Low Density Polyethylene Extrusion (LDPE) Coating;
b) Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Film Grades (Blown/ Cast) or Pharma;
c) Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) Butene Grades;
d) Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) Hexene/ Octene Grades;
e) Metallocene Polyethylene Grades;
f) Base Resins of Power Cable, Jacketing and other applications; and
g) Compounds for Cable Jacketing/ Sheathing/ Polyethylene-80 and Polyethylene-100 (Black and Pigmented)/ Reinforcement Fillers.”
This amendment acknowledges the diverse applications and specifications within the polyethylene industry, tailoring the regulations to ensure effective quality control without unduly burdening specific classes of polyethylene material.
Industry stakeholders and manufacturers are advised to familiarize themselves with the amended order and implement necessary adjustments to their processes to comply with the revised quality control standards.
