The Central Government has issued specifications for Phospho Gypsum (Granular) manufactured in India. The specifications, notified under Clause 20 A of the Fertiliser (Inorganic, Organic, or Mixed) Control Order, 1985, will be applicable for a period of three years from the date of publication in the official Gazette, i.e. up to 21st July, 2026.
The specifications for Phospho Gypsum (Granular) are as follows:
(i) Moisture content: Maximum 15.0 percent by weight (ii) Sodium content (as Na): Maximum 0.75 percent by weight (on dry basis) (iii) Colour: Light Green (iv) Particle Size: Not less than 90 percent of the material shall pass through a 4 mm IS sieve and be retained on a 1 mm IS sieve. Not more than 5 percent shall pass through a 1 mm IS sieve. (v) Sulphur (as S): Minimum 13.0 percent by weight (vi) Calcium Sulphate dehydrate content: Minimum 70.0 percent by weight (on dry basis) (vii) Fluoride (as F): Maximum 1.0 percent by weight (viii) Maximum Heavy metal content (as mg per kg):
- Lead (as Pb): 100.0
- Cadmium (as Cd): 5.0
- Chromium: 50.0
- Nickel: 50.0
- Arsenic (as As2O3): 10.0
- Mercury (as Hg): 0.15
Farmers, agro-industries, and other stakeholders are encouraged to adhere to these specifications during the three-year period to ensure the production and usage of Phospho Gypsum (Granular) of the highest quality, contributing to the overall growth and development of the agriculture sector in India.
