PCI Draws Attention To UGC Mandate On Anti-Ragging Measures
The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has issued a notice urging all pharmacy institutions to monitor Anti-Ragging measures as per University Grants Commission (UGC) directions. The UGC has issued comprehensive regulations on curbing the menance of ragging in higher educational institutions. These regulations are applicable to all institutions across the country. This notice was issued on January 12, 2024.
Dental Colleges Urged to Adhere to Anti-Ragging Regulations
The DCI has issued a stern reminder to all dental institutions to uphold the integrity and safety of dental education in India by ensuring a ragging-free environment. All dental institutions are urged to comply with the Anti-Ragging Regulations and upload the requisite information on the online portal of DCI by October 31, 2023, and also submit their compliance on the UGC portal.

Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses & Assessment and Rating Regulations, 2023
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has introduced a new mandate stating that no medical college or medical institution can be established, and no new medical course can be started without obtaining written permission from the MARB. Medical institutions must obtain permission from the MARB to increase the number of seats.
DCI directs Dental Colleges to Conduct Anti-Ragging Orientation Program in Compliance with Guidelines
While conducting Anti-Ragging Orientation Programs, the dental colleges must either invite a DCI member from their own state or from a neighboring state if the member from their own state is unavailable for any reason. Furthermore, after conducting the program, the dental colleges must promptly provide the prescribed documents to the DCI office.
NMC requests submission of Compliance Report on Anti-Ragging Measures, Incidents and Action Taken
Medical colleges/ institutes are required to comply with the Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institutions Regulations, 2021 and submit the compliance report to the NMC by 30th June, 2023.
