Government of Delhi introduces Scheme to Empower people with Disabilities
Delhi government has introduced the “Sugamya Sahayak Scheme,” with the objective of empowering individuals with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBDs) by improving their mobility and capabilities. Spearheaded by Delhi’s Minister of Social Welfare, this initiative is a long-awaited program of the government designed to enhance Mobility and Capability, opening doors to newfound independence and prospects for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBDs).
Disability Rules Amended For Inclusive Access To Water and Sanitation
These amendments aim to further enhance accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities and other population groups facing access challenges. The amendments foster a more inclusive environment by addressing essential aspects of accessibility in water supply and sanitation facilities, particularly catering to the needs of persons with disabilities and those facing access challenges in both urban and rural settings.
Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Amendment) Rules, 2023
By the present amendment rules, every establishment must comply with the rural sector specific harmonized accessibility standards/guidelines. Scope of accessibility guidelines in DoRD include provision of guidelines for making various assets created and activities undertaken through the different schemes being implemented by DoRD, accessible to persons with disabilities.
Inclusion of QR Codes on Food Products for Accessibility by Visually Impaired Individuals
FSSAI suggests that one effective means of facilitating easy access to nutritional information for visually impaired individuals is to incorporate Quick Response (QR) codes on product labels. These QR codes should include product details such as ingredients, nutritional information, allergens and their warning, manufacturing date, best before/ expiry/ use by date and contact information for customer inquiries.
