CPCB Requests E-waste Stakeholders To Register On Online Portal
CPCB has developed an online EPR Portal for management of e-waste. Hence, all producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes of e-waste are requested register on this portal by December 31, 2023.
Battery Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2023
These amendments aim to ensure the sustainable production of batteries and improve waste management practices. The rules emphasize environmental responsibility and compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility targets.
Ministry of Environment Implements Rules for Effective Waste Tyre Management
All registered producers on the Waste Tyre EPR Portal are required to submit their Annual Returns for the fiscal year 2022-23 and Quarterly Returns for the first and second quarters of the fiscal year 2023-24. These returns should be submitted on or before the end of the month succeeding the quarter to which the return pertains, through the designated EPR portal.
Plastic Waste Management (Second Amendment) Rules, 2023
This draft amendment aims to enhance the regulation of plastic waste management, particularly in the areas of compostable and biodegradable plastics, waste processing, labeling, and extended producer responsibility.
Framework for generation of EPR Certificate under E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022
This initiative aims to incentivize and monitor the recycling of essential metals, ensuring they are used sustainably and efficiently. The key metals have been categorized into three groups: Precious Metals, Non-Ferrous Metals, and Ferrous Metals.
Waste Tyre Recyclers and E-Waste Recyclers Directed to Generate EPR End Product Credits
To participate in this interim arrangement, recyclers are required to maintain meticulous records, including procurement of raw materials, sales of end products, and EPR certificate transactions in an Excel sheet format. The aim is to create a transparent and efficient system for tracking waste tyre management and recycling.
Draft SOP for Lead recycling units desirous of importing lead scrap/lead acid battery scrap
The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has recently issued comprehensive Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the recycling of lead scraps, including scrap lead-acid battery waste, lead acid battery plates, and other lead-based scraps and residues. These guidelines are aimed at ensuring environmentally responsible recycling practices and maintaining the safety and health of workers in the lead recycling industry.
Comments Invited on Draft Framework for Generation of EPR Certificates for Key Metals
In the initial two years, EPR certificates will be generated for Gold (Au), Non-Ferrous Metals (Al and Cu), and Iron (including steel and galvanized iron). However, the EPR Certificate framework also leaves room for Rare Earth and other precious materials to be considered and incentivized under the EPR regime.
