National Hands-on Training Program on Biogas Technology and Its Implementation

This national training program has been organized by the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to February 23, 2024. The training program is designed for SNDs/SNAs/BDTCs/KVIC, manufacturers of biogas plants, purification systems, engines, gas flow meters, project developers, implementers, consultants, biogas aspirants, start-ups, and field supervisory functionaries involved in the implementation of biogas programs.

GENCOs encouraged to Participate in CIRP of Stressed Power Assets

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued an advisory encouraging all States/ Generation Companies (GENCOs) to participate in the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) for taking over stressed thermal power assets. State-owned GENCOs are advised to acquire stressed power assets through IBC under the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) route and contribute to the overall generation capacity of the nation.

Ministries of Coal and New & Renewable Energy Join Forces to Boost Green Energy Initiatives

Under this cooperative framework, the MNRE will extend its support by providing technical expertise, policy guidance, and capacity-building assistance. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Coal will facilitate the availability of land and capital while actively participating in the implementation of solar energy, green hydrogen, and various other renewable energy projects.

MoP directs all GENCOs on Timely Import of Coal

To ensure a consistent and uninterrupted power supply across the country, the Ministry of Power, in consultation with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Grid India, has made the decision to increase the blending of imported coal to a minimum of 6% by weight. Power generation companies (Gencos) are encouraged to continuously monitor their coal stock positions.

Government launches Standards & Labelling Programme for Solar Panels

The star labelling scheme, prepared by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), for PV modules will be in effect from January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2025. Solar panel manufacturers are called to voluntarily register under the star labelling program. The programme will become mandatory after the initial two years.

MNRE lists Penalties for Violation of DCR Norms under Solar Projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has listed penalties for violation of Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms under solar PV projects. Moreover, it is categorically stated that DCR provisions under respective schemes/ programmes of the MNRE must be strictly complied with. Any violation of these provisions will invite action.

R&D Roadmap for Green Hydrogen Ecosystem in India

The roadmap, which has been drafted after an exhaustive analysis of the current state of technology and ongoing research, benchmarking, and identifying gaps, lays out a clear path for research and development actions to promote green hydrogen commercialization. It is expected that this draft roadmap will serve as a guiding document for establishing a dynamic research and development ecosystem necessary for the commercialization of green hydrogen.
