National AIDS Control Program Review Meeting in Agra

The National AIDS and STD Control Program (NACP) is currently in its fifth phase, aiming to reduce new HIV infections and AIDS-related mortality while also eliminating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS in society. Several initiatives were highlighted, including the National AIDS toll-free helpline, lifetime free ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) services, free lifelong antiretroviral (ARV) medicines for people living with HIV, and various counseling and diagnostic services.

Measures taken to Address Rising Cases of Cancer

A population-based initiative for prevention, control and screening for common NCDs i.e. diabetes, hypertension and common cancers has been rolled out in the country under NHM and also as a part of Comprehensive Primary Health Care.

Doctors Exhorted to prescribe Generic Medicines

In order to promote generic medicines at affordable prices to all, more than 9600 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) have been set up covering all districts of the country. 

G20 Global Food Regulators Summit

Inaugurating the summit’s preparations the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare unveiled the summit’s logo, accompanied by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare highlighted the significance of the summit, stating, “This is the first time the summit is being held outside Rome, Italy. The Global Food Regulators Summit will bring focus on the crucial aspect of food safety, which needs as much attention as food security.”

Surrogacy (Regulation) Amendment Rules, 2023

MoHFW has revised the qualifications of the andrologist in surrogacy clinics. The amendment now also permits an andrologist to qualify under the Rules if they possess an MS General Surgery or FNB/MCh/DM in reproductive medicine. Prior to this amendment, only a person possessing a Mch or DNB in Urology with special training in Diagnosing and Treating Male infertility was classified as an andrologist for the purposes of surrogacy.

MoHFW has revised the qualifications of the andrologist in ART Level 2 clinics. The amendment now also permits an andrologist to qualify under the Rules if they possess an MS General Surgery or FNB/MCh/DM in reproductive medicine. Prior to this amendment, only a person possessing a Mch or DNB in Urology with special training in Diagnosing and Treating Male infertility was classified as an andrologist for the purposes of ART.
