Draft SOP for Lead recycling units desirous of importing lead scrap/lead acid battery scrap
The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has recently issued comprehensive Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the recycling of lead scraps, including scrap lead-acid battery waste, lead acid battery plates, and other lead-based scraps and residues. These guidelines are aimed at ensuring environmentally responsible recycling practices and maintaining the safety and health of workers in the lead recycling industry.

CPCB reiterates the Implementation of EPR Guidelines for Plastic Packaging & Ban on SUP Items
Entities covered under the EPR Guidelines must not deal with any entities not registered on the EPR Portal. The restriction on transactions does not apply to other stakeholders in the supply chain such as traders and user industry.
CPCB directs PWPs to generate EPR Certificates for Sales in 2022-2023
CPCB has now directed that all registered PWPs shall complete EPR certificates generation for sales made in 2022-2023 on the EPR Portal by 31st July, 2023.
FSSAI directs ban on use of Packing Films around Sweet Boxes
The FSSAI points out that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) had notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021. The amendment prohibits manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single use plastic items. Hence, Food Business Operators (FBOs) are directed to ensure that no packing films are used to wrap/ pack sweet boxes.
CPCB issues Provisional EPR Target for 2023-2024
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) had previously announced an extension in the last date for Registered Producers, Importers, Brand Owners (PIBOs) to file the Annual Returns for 2022-2023. This extension was provided till 31st October, 2023. However, provisional EPR target 2023-2024 shall be applicable till actual EPR target is generated based on annual return for 2022-2023.
