Updated List of Approved Solar Photovoltaic Module Manufacturers and Models
Under the updated Approved List of Models and Manufactures for Solar Photovoltaic Modules, the enlistment of models of Solar PV Module Manufacturers in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) will be subject to stringent criteria. Only models that comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and meet the minimum module efficiency requirements will be eligible for enlistment under ALMM.
Extension of Deadline for Quality Control Compliance in Solar Photovoltaic Inverters
Considering factors such as the availability of test facilities for limited capacities and the need to provide additional time for compliance, the Central Government has decided to extend the implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO), 2017, for SPV inverters with a capacity exceeding 100 kW (>100 kW). The new deadline for compliance is now December 31, 2024, or until further orders, based on self-certification.
MNRE Takes Steps To Address Solar Waste
The E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, lay down stringent guidelines for manufacturers and producers of solar photo-voltaic modules, panels, or cells.

Ministries of Coal and New & Renewable Energy Join Forces to Boost Green Energy Initiatives
Under this cooperative framework, the MNRE will extend its support by providing technical expertise, policy guidance, and capacity-building assistance. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Coal will facilitate the availability of land and capital while actively participating in the implementation of solar energy, green hydrogen, and various other renewable energy projects.
State Governments Imposing Unlawful Additional Charges on Electricity Generation
The government has emphasised that no state has the authority to impose taxes or duties on the generation or inter-state supply of electricity under the guise of additional charges or fees, regardless of the energy source—be it thermal, hydro, renewables, or any other.
Government launches Standards & Labelling Programme for Solar Panels
The star labelling scheme, prepared by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), for PV modules will be in effect from January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2025. Solar panel manufacturers are called to voluntarily register under the star labelling program. The programme will become mandatory after the initial two years.
MNRE Updates List of Approved Solar Photovoltaic Module Manufacturers and Models
The updated list includes only those models of Solar PV Module Manufacturers that meet the stringent BIS Standards and boast a minimum module efficiency of 19% or higher.
NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited commissions 1 MW Rooftop Solar Power Project at IIT Jodhpur
The rooftop solar project at IIT Jodhpur has been set up across the roofs of 14 buildings within the campus. It is estimated to generate approximately 14.9 lakhs units of electricity annually, meeting 15% of the institute’s electricity requirements.
