In a significant stride toward fortifying India’s healthcare landscape, the government has approved the establishment of 157 new medical colleges under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for “Establishment of new Medical College attached with existing district/referral hospital.” A press release was issued on the same on 1st August, 2023.
Since the year 2014, these medical colleges have been greenlit to address the growing need for medical professionals and improved healthcare access across the country.
Adding another layer of value to this initiative, the recent budget speech for the fiscal year 2023-24 has announced the establishment of nursing colleges in tandem with these medical institutions. The allocation of nursing colleges across states reflects a concerted effort to enhance the nursing workforce and further enhance healthcare services.
